The Border Kingdoms
A great kingdom once stood where The Shaar Desolation is now. Its many cities and fortresses dominated the land and their power was great. One such fortress, known as Vorenghast, was home to Lord Valliorn de Gersyed, a great Warrior and scholar who, seeing the fate that was to befall the land sealed himself within his undercroft with the hope of surviving the Spellplague and one day rising again. He spent many years extending down into the rock beneath the keep. His miners discovered a sunken tower beneath, and much more besides; a dark and malevolent power lurked below, it took Valliorn’s eldest son and cursed his line for all eternity before it was sealed behind a warded door. After the desolation Lord Valliorn existed as an incorporeal spirit who temped those who passed the ruins to dig for the entrance to his sanctum. Once there his undead servants would attack those who tress pass, their spilt blood would provide Valliorn with the essence he needs to reform his body. Unfortunately very few people ventured into the Shaar and over many centuries the spirit of Valliorn was himself corrupted by the evil below.
